Purple

My life is more than my work

PURPLE, THE COLOR: Nothing too deep, I just like the bluish shades of purple and lavender, and have for decades. Given the Lavender Left connotation, some people have wondered about me (how is it possible that I get no hits for Lavender Left on Google?). Actually, sexual orientation is the least significant reason among many that people have wondered about me.

I can remember being disappointed when The-Artist-Then-And-Now-Once-Again-Known-As-Prince released Purple Rain in 1978. Purple had already become my trademark (I never signed notes to coworkers ... if it's in purple ink, it's from me) and when the song hit, everyone was going to be "into purple" for a few years. It passed for others; I'm still into it.

THE COLOR PURPLE: For very different reasons, I also loved Alice Walker's powerful book The Color Purple, and I enjoyed the movie and the musical based on it as well. Alice has written some marvelous work, and I once saw her live, reading her work at her daughter's Myrtle Avenue internet café in good old Brooklyn USA.
