Selective Service System: I have been a member of Local Board 142, representing my part of Brooklyn for many years. Should there ever again be any involuntary induction, some young men (and maybe young women by then?) who seek one or more deferments would come before me, as one member of their board. My initial 2-day board training turned out to be the last time I was ever inside the World Trade Center.
What is the Selective Service System?
According to the SSS' current thinking, a general population draft is an unlikely scenario. A more likely scenario for which they plan involves large-scale injuries from a terrorist attack, resulting in a draft of medical personnel ... doctors, nurses, technicians, etc. Let's hope the need never arises.
